Three people, including two police officers, were killed and seven others were injured in two traffic accidents in Kupwara and Awantipora, police said.
In Kupwara a car with the license plate JK09A-7899 was driven by Mudasir Tariq Mir, son of Tariq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Tanghdar, slipped off the road and fell into a Nallah near Ziyarat Sharief TP in the jurisdiction of police station Kralpora.
Two commuters who were identified as Habib-ul-lah Lone, Chief of Police at J & K Police, son of Nazir Ahmad Lone-resident of Suliman Tangdhar and Ruqaiya Begum-wife of Shafiq Ahmad Manhas-resident of Chamkote were killed on the spot.
“Four persons, namely Asmat Majeed, wife of Habib-ul-lah, their underage son Wamiq Ahmad Lone, underage Zohra Shafiq, daughter of Shafiq Ahmad Manhas and the driver of the vehicle were injured in the accident.
The injured were transferred to Sub District Hospital Kralpora for treatment. The Kupwara police have registered a case in this respect.
In Awantipora, a car with license plate JK01R-1390, controlled by Irshad Shafi Kuchay, son of Mohammad Shafi Kuchay, lived in Bemina, Srinagar collided with an Alto K-10 bearing registration number JK01AB-1496 controlled by Mohammad Farooq, constable in J & K Police, son of Mohammad Ismail resident of Khawarpora Karnah Kupwara on the National Highway near Barsoo.
Both the drivers and two other persons who have injured on board the Ritz car in this accident.
All wounded were transferred to the hospital for a treatment in which physicians declared Constable Mohammad Farooq Raina dead.
The Awantipora police have registered a case in this respect.
“Inspector General of Police Kashmir Shri Munir Ahmad Khan has sincerely expressed condolences to the relatives of police personnel and has prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased souls,” said the spokesman.
